Full Description
This rear-door Spare Wheel / Tyre Carrier is a structural upgrade for builders who need to relocate a full-size spare onto the rear of the vehicle without compromising door function, access, or long-term durability. Engineered specifically for the Mercedes Sprinter 907, it is our flagship aluminium carrier, TIG-welded from large-diameter 42 mm aluminium tube for maximum stiffness with minimal weight.
Wheel Positioning
Wheel placement is carefully considered as part of the overall system design. The carrier positions the spare to maintain clear access to the rear doors while avoiding obstruction of factory lights, number plates, and parking sensors where fitted. The adjustable hub allows fine positional tuning to suit individual preferences or build requirements.
Engineering
At the core of the system is our TRAC mounting architecture. Panel-gap brackets and profile-matched stiffener brackets work together to establish a defined load path through reinforced regions of the door structure, rather than relying on the latch-side skin or unsupported panel edges.
By redirecting load away from the point furthest from the hinge axis—where forces are naturally amplified—the system reduces stress, protects the door structure, and delivers stable, predictable performance across rough terrain and prolonged use.
Refined Installation
The carrier is engineered for a predominantly no-drill installation across all primary mounting points. To achieve maximum rigidity, a single precision fixing is introduced through the latch-side door skin. This point is fully integrated into the TRAC load-path system, ensuring the skin is properly supported and protected against deformation under sustained load.
Hinge Compatibility
Designed around real-world builds, the carrier is fully compatible with both 180° and 270° factory hinges, allowing seamless integration across a wide range of rear-door configurations without limiting access or functionality.
Built for Purpose
Relocating the spare wheel isn’t just a visual upgrade—it’s a functional one. Moving the wheel to the rear door frees valuable underbody space for high-capacity water tanks, auxiliary power systems, or additional storage, while keeping the spare accessible and securely mounted.
This carrier is built for a specific type of builder: one who values mechanical sympathy, structural integrity, and long-term reliability over the lowest price point. It isn’t a mass-market accessory—it’s a purpose-engineered solution for serious Sprinter-based builds.
